June 1, 2015 - Google I/O Report

June 1, 2015 -

Google I/O is a wrap! Mark Scheel, president of Digital Construction was at the event in San Francisco, with a stop at Google in Mountain View before.

"Google I/O is seven years old and still an incredible event. I have been six times now, and like many other long time participants noticed the changes this year. The Keynote was fantastic. The ATAP presentation was dynamite. The lack of major product announcements or lucrative swag, or even a marquis band at the party did not diminish my enjoyment as much as it did for some other folks. I think the networking and getting face time with Googlers is the real benefit of I/O, and I found that in spades this year. I do think the sandbox sessions should be filmed next year if the same layout is used as opposed to traditional classrooms, but I liked the access to different work groups at Google and enjoyed conversations with many of them." said Mark Scheel, president of Digital Construction.

Google I/O Extended Denver occurred at the same time and was also a big success. From professional live speakers to Google Cardboard for all participants the event was packed with surprises including a gourmet ice cream sandwich food truck with free dessert for all attendees.

Special Announcement: BookFlip by TrraFrma has been shut down. The Android app that made the business of being a real estate broker easier in the Denver metro area saw some success over the past few years. It had modest subscriber growth through the local MLS "Marketplace". But the business was no longer tenable after REColorado (formerly Metrolist) modified their data licensing terms to include a licensing fee increase that was 120 times the previous price. Yes. That is not a typo. Unhappy face. Thanks to our customers who supported this venture over the years and to Metrolist who supported innovation in the app delivery Marketplace well ahead of the industry curve.

Mark is particpating in a special Women Who Code study group focused on Android and the Udacity Android Nano Degree program with a local study group this month, and also speaking at AnDevCon in Boston at the end of next month.
