July 1, 2014 - Book Tour, GDG, Android Wear

July 1, 2014 -

July will be a busy month for Digital Construction.

The Book Tour for Software Development For Google Glass continues. This month we are presenting at the Denver Chapter of Million Cups of Coffee. This group of over 250 Denver entrepreneurs enjoys presentations from presenters trained by the Kaufmann Founders School. Mark Scheel, President of Digital Construction is presenting alongside Boulder based Home Automation startup Yonomi on July 16 at Galvanize.

The talk will be about the process of writing a book on your own, spurning a big company book deal and what the ramifications are, economically, time-wise and what kinds of ups and downs there are. It will be funny, and inspiring we hope.

On July 22nd, Digital Construction is launching a local GDG chapter--GDG Denver. Google Developer Groups span the globe and seek to build a community of like minded developers and enthusiasts interested in various Google technologies.

Our first meeting, to be held in downtown Denver, will focus on Android Wear.

Mark Scheel will speak about Android Wear, providing a review of apps available from games to customized watch faces to software that is not publicly available yet. He will also conduct a code lab instructing developers how to write Android Wear software with Android Studio.

Update - July 21, 2014

The Million Cups of Cofee presentation was a big success with positive feedback, great community advice from the audience, and even some monetization through the sale of signed copies of the book. Here is some of the feedback:

"Thanks for presenting at 1MC ... it was really informative for me" (Breahna B.)

"I thought your presentation and story were great! Thanks for putting yourself out there and sharing" (Cherish E.)

"I just wanted to drop you a quick note to follow up on your presentation today. I thought your story was super interesting, and I would even go so far as to say inspirational. Great job!" (Karen S)

Software Development for Google Glass is supported by Digital Construction at this mini-site, where you can get more information about the book and learn about book signings, talks, and more. An updated version of the book is expected later in 2014 and among other things will transition content from Eclipse to Android Studio.
