May 4, 2014 - New Google Glass Voice Commands Found

Mark Scheel, president of Digital Construction is writing a book on Software Development for Google Glass. The book will be published soon and he will have a book signing at the AnDevCon Boston conference, where he will be a speaker at the end of this month.

 

Mark has spoken about Glass at Big Android BBQ and other events, has been a paid writer and consultant for companies looking for more information about Google Glass, has written Glassware, and is now authoring a book on software development for Google Glass, with a working title "Software Development for Google Glass XE16".

 

While putting together the book, Mark has been closely following the developer documentation for Google Glass, and has found a new way to anticipate what software is coming to Google Glass, often called Glassware.

 

"As of XE16, the operating system running on Glass released on April 5, 2014, the way software developers launch software with new voice commands changed radically. In development mode a new manifest permission is required, and the format for launching apps changed as well. I recently made a submission to the open source ZXing barcode scanner project to make that application XE16 friendly in this regard.

 

While writing in my upcoming book about XE16.2 that released on April 29, 2014 I noticed that an ENUM for Voice Trigger Commands has expanded radically. It now includes interesting options like Turn A Flashlight On, Magnify This, and Keep Me Awake. There used to be 17 voice commands and now there are 58.

 

My suspicion is that we will some of these commands arrive as Glassware at the MyGlass website soon. Currently there are 44 Apps there, up from 11 at product launch in 2013. None of the new Voice Commands are yet represented. I am guessing the apps may launch around the release of XE17, if it is released in May 2014 (the 17th month since January 2013), or in whatever XE release is next." wrote Mark Scheel.
