November 1, 2013 - HTC Hackathon Win

November 1, 2013 -

Mark Scheel, president of Digital Construction was at the Big Android BBQ outside Dallas, TX in October, and was featured in a tweet by the group.

When not speaking he dropped into the Code Kitchen, a hackathon event organized by a local Google Developer Group (GDG). Many companies were offering prizes including Boulder, CO based friends, Orbotix (Sphero). Due to limited time Mark participated in a speed event organized by HTC.

The challenge was to build an Android project that could be loaded onto a HTC One and take advantage of the IR blaster hardware to turn off and on the TV at the HTC booth in the exhibition hall. Mark was the first programmer to complete the challenge, and took home an unlocked HTC ONE as top prize.

"My first experience at The Big Android BBQ was exceptional. I met talented Android programmers from many big name companies and enjoyed comraderie and swapping of war stories. I brought a lot of important lessons, ideas and new tools to explore back to Denver. Aaron Kasten did an incredible job building this event, congratulations to him, and of course thank you to the Developer Relations team at HTC, I use my HTC ONE daily and its an incredible piece of hardware, I can't wait to get KitKat on it!" said Mark Scheel, president of Digital Construction."
