January 1, 2011 - Great Year, Giving Summary

January 1, 2011 - Hi friends, this is Mark Scheel. 2010 was a great year. Thank you to TREND, RMLS, CRT, Hotlist and all of my clients. I hope you enjoyed my holiday letter and surprise. A special thank you to "Client of the year" TREND, you have been an absolute joy to work with.

I was inspired by the story of Google Engineer Neil Fraser who very generously used his money to correct a wrong he read about in LA Weekly.

Perhaps by sharing my own giving I can inspire others to pay forward a kindness in their own lives.  Thanks Neil for the extra nudge!

Below are the charities I made major gifts to in 2010 that I have supported for years.  If you are seeking a charity in the future I would be thrilled if you supported any of these:

West Denver Prep is a charter school program in Denver providing college-preparatory education to Denver students from four campuses.  I volunteered for two summers with the founder of the program and I couldn't be prouder of Chris and how he has made his vision a reality, he is truly an inspiration.

Chris recently wrote me "just received notification of your incredibly generous contribution to our work here.  It’s been a good year, with lots of good progress and lots of great challenges ... Thank you, so much.  I’m honored that you continue to support us so seriously."

Breakthrough Kent Denver is an education program that provides educational opportunities to underserved middle school youth.  I participated as a volunteer teacher in this program for two summers while in college.

Breakthrough San Francisco is an education program that provides educational opportunities to underserved middle school youth. I participated as a volunteer teacher in this program for one summer while in college.

Lehigh Valley Summerbridge is an education program that provides educational opportunities to underserved middle school youth. I participated as a volunteer teacher in this program for one summer before college. [If making a donation do so through Moravian Academy, give the director Lori Wehr a call she'll make your day pleasant and walk you through the steps]

Providence Summerbridge is an education program that provides educational opportunities to underserved middle school youth. I participated as a volunteer teacher in this program for one summer during high school.

Cheers to a wonderful 2011!
